About
I am a 5th grade teacher at St. Stephens Elementary School. I teach with 3 other teachers in the 5th grade. We ability group or students and I am fortunate to get to teach the lower students within our grade. This is a new school for me this year. I am excited and anxious about the change. I love my job and strive to make a difference in the lives of my students.
Teaching is a second career for me. I worked for 20 years in the medical and dental field doing a variety of jobs. After 20 years, and a move across the country, I began substituting in schools. I was hooked on education. I substituted for 10 years before deciding to get paid for what I was doing. In 2004 I returned to school to finish my last two years of college to receive my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. Upon my December graduation I began teaching 2nd grade. The following year I was moved to 5th grade. This is my third year teaching 5th grade.
I am married to a wonderful, supportive husband who encourages me to follow my dreams. We are both back in school to further our education. I am working on my Masters; he is working on his Doctorate. We have two children who have both given us grandchildren. My oldest son (27) and his wife live here in Hickory with their two boys Zabien who is 4 and Grayson who is 8 months.

I enjoy working out at the gym. I meet 3 other teachers from my school at 4:45 every morning. It is a wonderful beginning to my day. My husband and I enjoy traveling, skiing, boating and spending time with our grandchildren. We have had the privilege of seeing all but 2 states in the US, Louisiana and Minnesota, and several countries. We are working on our last two provinces in Canada as well. I think my all time favorite place we have been is Australia and New Zealand. The country is beautiful, but better than that the people are absolutely wonderful. Having the experience of traveling has helped me with my teaching. I use the knowledge I have gained often in my classroom.
